Simplification Through Symbolism
Turning a complex concept into a simple visual ca be a daunting task, but it is an important tool for every creative pro. Choose 3 quotes and create 3 vectorized images, in black & white, to depict the quotes.

“All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward.”
-Ellen Glasgow (Novelist, March 22, 1874-November 21, 1945)
“To say ‘I Love You’ one must be able to say the ‘I’.”
-Ayn Rand (Writer, February 2, 1905-March 6, 1982)

“Give light and people will find the way.”
-Ella Baker (Activist, December 13, 1903-December 13, 1986)
1. Change is something that we cannot control. However, I usually don’t like change. I enjoy trying new things and experiences, but it is unsettling for me when I see something end or become something else. This quote makes a great point though, change comes at any moment of time, in any direction. As they say, the only thing constant in life is change. The image displays constant change moving in different directions and continually flowing, almost like an infinity symbol.
2. The black lines connecting the lips are symbolic of ties trying to keep the mouth shut from saying the letter ‘I’. (think prison bars) ‘I love you’ is one of the most difficult phrases to tell someone you care about. You must be sure of how you feel about a person before this phrase is spoken. This quote, for instance, is saying that a person must be sure of themselves, and who they are before you blurt out such a meaningful, and endearing phrase.
3. We all seek guidance in our lives. From friends, family, strangers, colleges, or authority figures, advice is always needed. People take this advice and, hopefully, will make adjustments accordingly. With guidance comes decision, which in turn creates one more step to progress.
